Overview:

This opening offers a unique opportunity to join an organization oriented to change and a commitment to be recognized as the top healthcare provider in Central Oregon. This position will directly interact with all members of the Executive team and have a major role in creating the public identity of a new CHC presence and set the strategic communication direction for CHC. This individual will be expected to act as a catalyst for continuous improvement in all functions of the company and provide personal leadership, guidance and management of all marketing communications, internal communications and community relationships.

Qualified Candidates:

Twelve or more years experience, with at least three years experience in mid to senior management of a regional healthcare or similarly regulated organization.
Minimum five years experience managing professional, support, and contracted staff.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a successful brand strategy that provides a cohesive theme to all the enterprise’s portfolio of activities.
Extensive strategy/coaching and crisis communication experience to support and counsel executives’ communications effectiveness.
Demonstrated excellence at managing, coaching, training and leading people.
Education will be a minimum of BS/BA in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations. Healthcare administration, and/or directly related comparable experience. Masters degree in a related field is a plus.

Purpose of Position: This position is responsible for developing, writing, and overseeing production or communications pieces for three Washington State Hospital Association programs: Patient Safety, Health Work Force Institute, and Health Information Program. It requires the ability to work with staff of these three distinct programs. This position will also assist with general WSHA communications and will oversee production of major WSHA publications. This position will choose and work with vendors and consultants such as graphic designers, printers, and web conference vendors. It requires working alone or with designers to create publications, presentations, webcasts, web pages, and events that look professional and reflect the identity of WSHA. This position will be part of a team setting standards for the look of WSHA publications and consistent messages. It requires excellent idea generation skills, interviewing skills, writing skills, attention to detail, and good proofing skills. Project development skills and the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities are required.

Job Conditions
Position requires working in an office environment and with usual office equipment including copiers, fax machines and computers. Position requires sitting for long periods of time using computer mouse, keyboard and screen. Position will require occasional early morning, evening, and weekend work.

Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000 DOQ

The Northwest Health Foundation was created in 1997 as a result of the sale of PACC Health Plans and HMO. The Foundation works to advance, support, and promote the health of the people of Oregon and Southwest Washington and actively forges alliances to stimulate health philanthropy in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. As of June 2008, the Foundation distributed $40 million to organizations that carry out programs and services in the Foundation’s four primary focus areas: 1) Health Care Workforce – Nursing, 2) Access to Health Care, 3) Public Health, 4) Partnerships/community partnership funds. We seek a Director of Communications who will create and implement the Foundation’s overall communications strategy and drive the process for defining the role of communications and its place within the Foundation. The Director will help realize the program and advocacy goals for the communities the Foundation serves and effectively communicate those goals internally and externally. The Director of Communications is responsible for serving as a proactive resource for the program and policy work as well as to the Foundation’s community partners, collaborations, and grantees. This position will direct production of all communications, public engagement, and marketing materials as well as manage media relations, participate in coordinating community outreach events, coordinate technology/website, and write speeches and testimony. This position reports to the President and serves as a strategic member of a four-person management team.

We seek a Director of Communications who is a seasoned, hands-on, active leader with the ability to provide strategic clarity in promoting the Foundation’s communication initiatives. The successful candidate is a self-starter with the ability to independently manage a large workload and multiple demands, delivery quality and detailed work. The ideal candidate will value and encourage diversity, embrace a non-discrimination environment, and respect open dialogue.

Ten years experience in communications, public relations, marketing, and/or branding with demonstrated success in developing, managing and implementing communications for programs, policy initiatives and other projects is needed. Experience and knowledge of public health, heath professions, health reform and social equity as well as an understanding of the role of foundations in policy work is preferred. Knowledge of the role communications play in philanthropy is also preferred. BA degree in communications, journalism, marketing or English preferred.
